We subtitle films with an editor and proofreader, and several experienced translators - who adapt rather than translate the film to avoid disrupting its flow. We check more than spelling and grammar: we also double-check line breaks, syntax, punctuation, etc.
Translation and subtitling billing is based on word count, not the film's length, to avoid overcharging. Then we can burn the subtitles onto the image or generate a separate file (our lab handles about 10 formats).
